Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how 1News ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use the 1News website (https://1news.me) and the 1News mobile apps for iOS and Android (together, the "Service"). 1News is operated by 1000178307 Ontario Inc. (Ontario, Canada).
1News does not require an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or password to use the Service.
Information we collect
- Device identifier. The app generates a random device ID stored on your device. It is not linked to your real-world identity and is used only to save and sync your in-app preferences.
- Preferences. Your selected country, language, news categories, display style, and text size. These are stored locally and associated with the random device ID on our servers so your settings persist.
- Usage analytics. Aggregate, non-identifying events such as which articles or categories you open, searches, settings changes, and screens viewed. These help us improve the Service.
- Reading interests (on-device only). The app keeps a small, decaying score of which categories you read most, stored only on your device, to personalize summaries and time daily notifications. This data never leaves your device.
We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, or microphone data, and we do not sell your data.
How we use information
- To deliver and personalize your news feed and AI summaries.
- To remember your preferences across sessions and devices using the random device ID.
- To understand aggregate usage so we can fix problems and improve features.
- To schedule optional local notifications (a daily briefing) at a time you tend to read.
Notifications
Daily briefing notifications are opt-in and generated locally on your device. You can turn them off at any time in the app's Settings or in your device's system settings.
Donations
Support contributions are processed by Stripe. Payment card details are handled entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number. We retain only non-identifying records (amount, currency, and approximate country) for accounting. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Third-party services
- Google Cloud Platform — hosting and database (data stored in the United States).
- Google Analytics 4 — aggregate usage measurement.
- Stripe — donation processing.
- News publishers — article headlines, summaries, and images are sourced from public RSS feeds and link back to the original publisher.
Data retention
Preferences tied to your device ID are kept until you reset them or stop using the Service. Aggregate analytics are retained in line with Google Analytics defaults. On-device data is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its storage.
Your choices
- Adjust or reset your preferences any time in Settings.
- Disable notifications in-app or in system settings.
- Uninstalling the app removes locally stored data, including the device ID and reading interests.
Children
1News is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
