WINNIPEG, MANITOBA - APRIL 18: Analyst Anthony Smith is seen on the desk prior to the UFC Fight Night event at Canada Life Centre on April 18, 2026 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Anthony Smith has broken his silence four weeks after being arrested and charged with a series of extremely serious crimes. The former UFC fighter and commentator was booked a day after his 38th birthday and faces one count of domestic violence resulting in serious bodily injury, one count of first-degree false imprisonment, and one count of uttering terroristic threats. According to the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office, Smith allegedly threatened to kill his wife if she didn’t leave a bar with him, grabbing her by the arm and forcing her into their car. After they arrived at home, they claim Smith attempted to hit her with the vehicle multiple times. Initial reports from the night of the incident also include claims of shots fired and Smith refusing to leave the house when police arrived on scene. Days after the incident, Smith’s wife challenged the narrative presented by police reports and attorney’s charges in an Instagram post. “I love Anthony with every ounce of my being,” she wrote. “He is a good man, a great dad, and an incredible husband who loves us endlessly. Anyone that knows him can attest to that. They made a mental health struggle into something it wasn’t. I am safe and always was safe. He would never hurt me. Ever. I called for help to protect him from himself.” And now Smith is speaking up for the first time since the incident. “Happy to be home with my household full of ‘whys,'” Smith wrote under a photo of his wife and kids. “I’ll be able to tell my story someday soon. Until then … you guys just keep making it up as you go 😉 Character is revealed in chaos.” What’s very real are the charges filed against him. Even if they are made up by an overzealous prosecutor, Smith will have to have a very good lawyer to extract himself from this serious situation. Hopefully that lawyer will also be able to present some sort of statement to the public as well to give people Smith’s side of the story. Because in the absence of that? There’ll only be more assumptions and made up narratives.
