Optimus Prime and Donald Trump The company behind the Transformers franchise has issued a statement following the Donald Trump administration’s recent posts using the likeness of one of the company’s signature characters. Earlier this week, the X account for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reposted a message which read: “DHS is getting the worst of the worst off of America’s roads. “Far too many American lives have been lost or permanently changed because illegal aliens who have no business being on our roads have been granted CDLs.” On Wednesday night, the account then shared an AI-generated image depicting the Transformers character Optimus Prime alongside the message: “Transformers: Age Of Deportation.” A day later, Hasbro – the owner of the Transformers brand – issued a statement which read: “Optimus Prime is a beloved character who represents humility, leadership, compassion and justice. “Hasbro is aware of the recent posts using his likeness. These posts were done without permission and do not represent the Transformers brand or Hasbro.” This message was then reshared by the official Transformers account. Over the summer, Olivia Rodrigo said she was “disturbed” to see the White House using her videos to soundtrack a video montage of ICE deportations on social media, while Ariana Grande called out the Trump administration for including one of her songs in a post taking aim at the transgender community. Similarly, Sabrina Carpenter previously branded one such video featuring an unauthorised use of her hit Manchild “evil and disgusting”, telling Trump’s team: “Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.” Meanwhile, just last week, Dolly Parton’s sister Stella issued a statement after Trump shared an AI-generated image depicting himself and the late country musician on social media.
