A significant fossil discovery in Queensland has revealed Australia's oldest carnivorous marsupial. These ancient predators, dating back twenty-three million years, inhabited lush rainforests. The tiny fossil jaws belong to a newly identified species named Miyumba chrisdickmani. This finding fills a major gap in the continent's evolutionary history. It suggests dasyurids originated in wet habitats before adapting to drier landscapes.
