Gary Oldman at last year’s Emmys Slow Horses star Gary Oldman is throwing his weight behind Jack Lowden to be cast as James Bond. During a new interview with Canada’s Global News, the Oscar winner was asked what he made of the recent rumours that Jack is among the frontrunners to be cast as 007. “It’s been rumoured that he’s on the shortlist or he’s one of [the people in consideration],” Gary noted, before suggesting that we’re “going to find out pretty soon” if the speculation is true, “because they have picked” the next James Bond star. “They have made their choice,” he alleged. “But they have not announced it yet. That year, while promoting Slow Horses alongside Gary, Jack’s co-star teased him about the speculation, to which Jack told AP that the rumours are “lovely”, but cast doubt on their validity. Meanwhile, more recently, Richard Osman claimed to have inside knowledge that Jack had been cast in the role, and praised the idea, calling the actor “an incredible Bond”. Just last month, it was reported that the 007 casting team had narrowed their choices down to just a handful, one of whom is Jack. However, it was suggested that Heartstopper and SAS: Rogue Heroes actor Jack Barton is producers’ top pick for the role, with Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson and Paul Mescal also thought to be in contention. Producer Amy Pascal previously claimed that the studio Amazon MGM was looking for “something really different” in their search for the next 007, keeping an eye out for someone “stirring and exciting and different”. Little else is known about what’s in store in the next instalment in the spy franchise, other than that it will be written by Peaky Blinders and House Of Guinness creator Steven Knight and directed by Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve.
