No hands! It’s been 11 days since Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight contender Song Yadong shocked the world by brutally knocking out former title challenger Umar Nurmagomedov in UFC Shanghai’s main event inside Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China (watch highlights). The massive victory launched Song directly into the Bantamweight title conversation. Depending on how the division’s next championship fight unfolds, the Chinese knockout artist could be just one win—or perhaps one favorable result—away from receiving his first UFC title shot. In the meantime, Song is apparently accepting challenges from the public. Footage recently surfaced of Song agreeing to wrestle a fan, with one significant catch: the UFC contender was not allowed to use his hands. Despite the handicap, Song effortlessly stuffed every takedown attempt that came his way. Jokes aside, Song has put together an excellent year. He began 2026 with a competitive decision loss to Sean O’Malley at UFC 324, which kicked off UFC’s new Paramount+ era. Song then returned to China and submitted former two-time Flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo (watch highlights) before flattening Nurmagomedov in Shanghai. That gives Song a 2-1 record in 2026 with consecutive finishes over a former UFC title challenger and UFC Flyweight champion. The Bantamweight title picture should become much clearer at UFC 333 this October when champion Petr Yan completes his trilogy with Merab Dvalishvili. A Dvalishvili victory could provide Song with a fresh and compelling championship matchup. However, if Yan retains the belt, Song may need another victory after losing a unanimous decision to “No Mercy” at UFC 299 in March 2024.
