MACAU, CHINA - MAY 30: Alex Perez is unable to continue after suffering a low blow from Sumudaerji of China in a flyweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at Galaxy Arena on May 30, 2026 in Macau, China. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Ouch. Two months ago, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight title challenger Alex Perez suffered a nasty low blow during his UFC Macau main card opener against Sumudaerji. The illegal shot came in the second round and rendered Perez unable to continue, resulting in a “No Contest.” Perez was immediately transported to a local hospital for a precautionary testicular ultrasound. Thankfully, he avoided the worst-case scenario. But the aftermath was brutal. “They are good now; I don’t have to get surgery,” Perez told MMAmania.com recently. “It was a crazy experience. It was a freak accident, you know what I mean? I got hit, and it went from there. I ended up going to the hospital that night and got painkillers — my balls were swollen. “I ended up having thrombocytosis — that’s where your veins get cut open, which can cause blood clots,” Perez continued. “My balls were like a softball and a golf ball for a couple of weeks.” Sheesh. Perez revealed that while he has suffered low blows before, this one was completely different. “It was an insane experience because — I don’t wear a cup in training, but now I do,” Perez laughed. “I’ve been hit down there before, and I was able to power through it, but this one was different.” “I was talking to a urologist, and basically, I got hit in my veins, which is where all the nerves are at — so he knew the pain was ruthless,” Perez continued. “Dude, I had a headache. I was hurting. I was dry heaving. It was bad. It is what it is. It didn’t look that bad on camera, but I’m not really worried about it.” The good news is Perez is healthy enough to run it back. The 34-year-old will get a chance to exact some revenge and continue what he started when he rematches Sumudaerji at UFC Shanghai on Aug. 30, 2026, back in the same country where his nightmare began. Perez will also try to rebuild the momentum he had before UFC Macau. Earlier this year, he violently knocked out Charles Johnson at UFC 324 (watch highlights), which was one of his best performances in years. Then came the low blow from hell. Hopefully, this time, Perez’s nuts stay out of the line of fire. To checkout UFC’s upcoming schedule of events click here.
