(Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Quillan Salkilld is on the rise following his impressive first round submission victory over Mateusz Gamrot in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Apex event (highlights here). But it may be a minute before we see him again, if he’s correct about a knee injury he suffered in the fight. Salkilld and Gamrot engaged in some ground work early and Gamrot got a hold of his opponent’s leg, wrenching it hard. According to Salkilld, that may have caused some damage to his knee. “There was a wrestling exchange at the start where he grabbed my ankle,” Salkilld said during the post-fight press conference. “If it was training, I would have kind of gone with it to not hurt the knee. He had my ankle and it turned to like 90 degrees. This one, I just went into it and heard a little pop. Even when I had that rear-naked choke, I actually felt it. I was like, ‘F–k, if I don’t get this, my knee’s going to be sore later.’ In round two or three, it would have been. It’s a bit sore now.” This win over No. 6 ranked Gamrot puts Salkilld on a 13 fight win streak (6 of those in the UFC)and is likely to put the No. 9 ranked Australian very close to the top five. Here’s hoping there wasn’t any serious damage done to his knee, or that momentum he’s been building with three wins in 2026 could skid to a halt.
