Courtney Stodden in 2025 Courtney Stodden has spoken out after Seinfeld star Jason Alexander publicly apologised for his involvement in a salacious comedy sketch they appeared in back in 2012, when she was still only 17. Earlier this week, Courtney posted a still on Instagram from a Funny Or Die skit she and Jason both appeared in, parodying the US daytime show Dr Phil. In the sketch, the former Celebrity Big Brother housemate appeared in a bikini, while Jason’s character held his phone to her head and said he was struggling to get “signal”. When he then moved it to her breasts, he claimed there was “plenty of signal” there. Sharing an image from this video with her followers, Courtney wrote: “I was 17 years old in this photo. The older I get, the more impossible this is to understand. “During this comedy sketch, Jason Alexander repeatedly rubbed his phone across my breasts while saying there was ‘no signal’ in my head but ‘plenty of signal’ in my chest. Later in the sketch, he joked that when I turned 18 he’d like to take me behind the couch and ‘have his way’ with me. “IMDb credits him as one of the writers of the episode. As an adult, that fact has become harder – not easier – for me to understand. I was a minor. I didn’t have the legal power to decide whether I wanted to participate. The contracts were signed by adults. The paycheck went to Doug [Hutchison, the actor she married at the age of 16]. The production moved forward. I was the only child in the room. I see a 17-year-old girl whose body became part of an adult joke. “People still say, ‘You chose to be there’. Legally, I couldn’t make those decisions for myself. That’s the point. “I can’t change what happened to me but I can ask myself: How did so many adults look at a minor and decide this was acceptable? That’s exactly why I speak out today. Children deserve laws that protect them. They shouldn’t have to become adults before realising the law should have protected them all along.” Following this, Jason issued a statement to TMZ, expressing his regret for the sketch. “Looking back at the comedy sketch in which Ms. Stodden and I participated in 2012, I completely agree that it was inappropriate and I truly regret it,” he said. “But more importantly, I am deeply sorry for any harm or distress it has caused Ms. Stodden. I offer her my sincerest apologies.” On Wednesday, Courtney told TMZ that she had accepted Jason’s public apology. “I believe the most meaningful apology is one that creates change,” she claimed. “I would encourage him to support and donate to Unchained At Last, an organisation I’m proud to advocate alongside that is leading the fight to end child marriage in the United States.” Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison in September 2013, when she was aged 19 Courtney became an inadvertent public figure in the 2010s, when she married Doug Hutchison when she was 16 years old and he was 51. The two parted ways in 2018, and their divorce was finalised in 2020. She has also appeared on the reality shows Celebrity Big Brother and Celebs Go Dating. More recently, she has become an advocate for animal rights and against child marriage, and has repeatedly called out the media’s treatment of her during the early years of her celebrity status when she was still a teenager.
