Among them was Fares Ziam, who was knocked out by Axel Sola in the very first round (highlights). And Muhammad Naimov, who was stopped by Losene Keita in the opening frame of their Featherweight bout (video here). But, which fighter is suffering from the worst post-fight hangover, now a few days removed from the show? Dan Hooker. Coming into the event, Hooker was feeling as confident as ever welcoming the always-dangerous Salahdine Parnasse to the Octagon despite losing his last two fights. But, that’s what makes “Hangman” a tough out, he is determined to put on a show or go out on his shield despite his shortcomings. Unfortunately for the scrappy New Zealander, his troubles only got worse in a hurry. Parnasse came out calm, cool and collected despite having the brightest mixed martial arts (MMA) lights on him in front of raucous French crowd. He was explosive out of the gate, delivering a perfectly-placed liver kick that hurt “Hangman” in the opening frame. Moments later, Hooker found himself on the floor, in pain and eating one big shot after another forcing the referee to put an end to the violent onslaught. And just like that, Hooker found himself the owner of a three-fight losing streak, all by way of stoppage. At 36 years of age, there is no telling whether or not Hooker plans to keep fighting. There is chatter amongst the MMA community that perhaps he needs to hang them up for good because of his ongoing troubles inside the cage. He hasn’t looked good in a few years, and at this point there is no sign of him improving his game to keep up with the ever-improving level of talent joining UFC’s ranks. Throughout his 12 year-run with the promotion, Hooker has been involved in memorable fights such as his epic war against Dustin Poirier in 2020, as well as his knockout performances against Jim Miller and Gilbert Burns. He has faced some very stiff competition throughout his career but, more often than not, he has come up short, including tough defeats against the likes of Arman Tsarukyan, Michael Chandler, Yair Rodriguez and Benoit Saint-Denis, just to name a few. It’s Hooker’s inability to secure a win against the bigger names in the 155-pound weight class that have convinced fight fans that he will never be nothing more than a gatekeeper. And that’s not to insult him — he has shown heart and grit win, lose or draw. And early on, fight fans knew they were in for a treat when Hooker was competing on a card. But, Father Time is undefeated. If Hooker decides to hang around for awhile longer, perhaps a fight against Manuel Torres is in order. Torres isn’t ranked in the Top 15 at the moment and was last seen losing to Rafael Fiziev via knockout this past June (his second loss in four fights). Torres is typically a standup fighter, which is the reason he has either earned a knockout or been knocked out in his last four outings.
