Song Yadong’s upset knockout win over Umar Nurmagomedov earlier today (Sat., Aug. 29, 2026) at UFC Shanghai was one of the best performances of the year, which is probably why “Kung Fu Kid” ran out of the Octagon and celebrated cageside with UFC legend Jon Jones. This weekend’s UFC Shanghai card wasn’t stacked by any stretch of the imagination, but that didn’t stop Chinese fans from packing out the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center and supporting a long list of hometown fighters. The weekend also featured appearances by Jones, who arrived in Shanghai earlier this week to a hoard of fight fans. Jones was there to take the action in firsthand and boy was his trip worth it. It is easily one of the biggest upsets of 2026 and a moment that put the Chinese crowd into a frenzy. After the referee pulled Yadong off he quickly exited the cage, found Jones sitting in the crowd, and celebrated with the G.O.A.T. It was a pretty cool moment. However, former UFC champion Sean O’Malley — who holds a win over Yadong — is also waiting in the wings. Maybe Jones can lobby for Yadong and get the Chinese contender his first title shot.
