Oscar winner Viola Davis was among the first to pay her respects in the early hours of Monday morning, having worked with Hayden on the courtroom drama Custody. “What an amazing talent you were,” Viola wrote on Instagram, remembering her late co-star as “so gifted”. “Julius [her husband and Custody co-star] and I loved working with you… an old, wise soul with such a deep heart.” Viola continued: “I wish the world had more time with you because I had a burning curiosity about who you were becoming. I saw this beautiful Phoenix rising from the ashes. “Your tests became your testimony, and your testimony became your legacy. You will be remembered. Rest well, Hayden. Sending healing prayers to your family, your daughter, and all who loved you. May they always speak your name.” Since then, a number of Hayden’s co-stars from the Scream franchise have also been sharing tributes. “Rest in peace, sweet Hayden,” Melissa Barrera, who worked with the late performer in 2023’s Scream VI, wrote on her Instagram story while franchise staple David Arquette said simply: “I love you Hayden.” Hayden Panettiere on the set of Scream 4 in the early 2010s Jay Shetty, who had recently interviewed Hayden about her 2026 memoir on his podcast, wrote that he was “truly heartbroken by this news”. “I can’t believe it. Our friendship had just begun and I was so moved by the conversation we shared earlier this year,” he lamented. Rosie O’Donnell also said she was “heartbroken” by the news, while Bethany Joy-Lenz, who worked with Hayden on the daytime soap Guiding Light, said she felt “crushed”. The Golden Globe nominee was best known for her leading performances in the TV series Heroes and Nashville, as well as her work as Kirby Reed in the Scream franchise. Police officers in Greenville, South Carolina said on Monday: “The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.
