Alonzo Menifield suffered one of the most gruesome thumb injuries we’ve ever seen during a decision win over Iwo Baraniewski earlier tonight (Sat., Sept. 19, 2026) at UFC 331 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. Most were expecting a classic Baraniewski firefight, but the undefeated Polish fighter came out more technical and showcased a polished striking attack that hurt Menifield late into the first. Menifield survived, though, and forced Baraniewski to see the the first second round of his MMA career. Menifield came out firing in the second frame and it forced Baraniewski to abandon his technical approach. It was now a 205-pound dog fight and Menifield wouldn’t be denied. Baraniewski was still landing shots, but Menifield ate them up and tired the Polish fighter. The only problem for Menifield was that he had suffered a gnarly broken thumb with bone sticking out. The cageside doctor checked it out entering the third round and let the fight continue. Menifield, who after his win revealed he suffered the injury in the first round, fought all 15 minutes en route to a split-decision victory. It’s his second-straight win against up-and-coming light heavyweights (Zhang Mingyang being the last).
