(AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin) Donald Trump has been accused of “lying” after he shifted position once again on the war in Iran. The US president said America now has “almost total control” of the Strait of Hormuz. Posting on Truth Social, Trump said: “I’m not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table, as ABC Fake News reported. I couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement. “I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing.” But just two weeks ago, the president claimed that the US had “total control” over the economically-vital waterway. In fact, he first claimed America controls the Strait in June. Social media users were also quick to call out his flip-flopping on the Strait of Hormuz, which carried one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquified natural gas before the war began in February but which has been effectively closed ever since. It’s Tuesday. Trump is lying. https://t.co/LcZkgb0PzY — Joe Walsh (@WalshFreedom) September 2, 2026 Lather, Rinse, Repeat... Lather, Rinse, Repeat... Conversely, when he claims “almost total control” it means he’s completely lying. — Dr. Adam Abba-Aji (@AdamAbbaAji) September 2, 2026 Listen to Commons People, the podcast that makes politics easy.
