Top seed Alexander Zverev was taken to a third set by French journeyman Quentin Halys in the Shanghai Masters last 32 but eventually prevailed 6-4, 6-7 (8-10), 6-3 on Sunday. Zverev can reach the year-end number one spot in the men's world rankings in Shanghai if he reaches the semi-finals.
