Tom Holland and Zendaya at a screening of their film Spider-Man: Brand New Day Zendaya has opened up about shooting her new movie The Odyssey with her new husband, Tom Holland. The Euphoria actor admitted during a recent interview that she was “grateful” to have her real-life partner on set during the first day of filming the Christopher Nolan epic. “You know, some locations he wasn’t at, but he was on my first day, which I was very grateful for,” she told Extra on the red carpet of the New York premiere of the new movie. “Because as you can imagine, something like this is quite a daunting task. It’s the scale, the scope, it’s absolutely extraordinary. “So, walking onto a Chris Nolan set for the first time is no small feat, so I was happy to have some support.” Zendaya plays the goddess Athena in the film while Tom plays Telemachus, the son of Matt Damon’s Odysseus and Anne Hathaway’s Queen Penelope. Tom also gushed about working with Zendaya, with whom he previously acted alongside in four Spider-Man movies. “I mean, it’s awesome,” he told Extra at the premiere. “We still, to this day, cannot believe we got to go through this together and experience this epic movie on the same set, on the same days. “You know, she’s fantastic in the film. She had a really tough job. I think when you see the movie and you see what she has to do, it’s really difficult, and as always, she nailed it.” Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon and Zendaya pictured behind the scenes of The Odyssey Tom even was part of the process of Zendaya being cast as the all-knowing goddess. Nolan offered Zendaya her part once he’d already cast her husband-to-be, and asked him if he would reveal the news to her himself. The couple read the movie’s script together the day before Tom’s first meeting with the Oppenheimer director, who then asked Tom directly about casting his then-fiancée. “He came home and said, ‘I need you to read something’,” Zendaya recalled on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast. “And I was like, ‘Is it that thing we were just reading the other night?’.” Tom also praised working with his real-life wife, Zendaya, on an episode of Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast last month. “I couldn’t imagine doing what I do without her,” he gushed. “I think she’s I think she’s the best actor going. I really think she has something special.” The Odyssey is in cinemas from Friday 17 July.
